ZAHEDAN: A young Baloch woman remains in critical condition after being shot by Iranian military forces during a violent raid on the village of Gonech in Khash, according to the Baloch Activists Campaign.
The victim, identified as 26-year-old Fatima Bamari, a mother of two, was shot twice with Kalashnikov rifle rounds—once in the forearm and once in the upper arm—during a military incursion into the village. The incident took place on July 1, when dozens of military vehicles surrounded Gonech and security forces opened fire on residents, including women and girls, after villagers protested the raid.
As a result of her injuries, Fatima suffered a fractured upper arm bone and severed tendons in her right hand. She underwent surgery at Khatam al-Anbiya Hospital in Zahedan to remove the bullets and stabilise the fracture with a metal plate.
However, doctors have informed her family that the torn tendons cannot currently be repaired. Her right hand remains paralysed, with no sensation or movement in the fingers, and she continues to experience intense pain.
Fatima is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon, but her long-term prognosis remains uncertain due to the extent of the injuries.
The July 1 raid led to multiple casualties. At least 11 Baloch women and girls were reported injured when security personnel opened fire on unarmed civilians. Among those killed was 40-year-old Khan Bibi Bamari, who died at the scene after being struck by a bullet. Another victim, Lal Bibi Bamari—known locally as Lali—also around 40 years old, died three days later at Imam Khomeini Hospital in Khash from injuries sustained during the attack.
Iranian forces continue to target Baloch civilians, including women and children, during unwarranted home raids, often carried out without legal justification or accountability. The growing number of victims—many of whom are women—has intensified fears among the local population.
In response to these escalating incidents, Baloch people across Khash and wider Balochistan have launched ongoing protests against the systematic state violence. Women have played a visible role in the demonstrations, standing at the forefront of rallies demanding justice and an end to military aggression. The protests have been gaining momentum, with more voices—both inside Iran and in the diaspora—condemning the state’s brutal crackdown on Baloch communities.
